Female Fitness Models - Maria Mikola
Maria's solid base for her physique was built early in
her life when she trained and competed as a gymnast throughout high
school. Her competition days in gymnastics came to an abrupt end when
she suffered a knee injury that put her out of competition in her senior
year. In her college years Maria took up competitive trampoline and
synchronized trampoline with her sister. After her stint in competition,
Maria turned to coaching in gymnastics. She would coach kids as young
as five up to the elite athletes competing at the olympic level. She
also developed a competitive gymnastics program for a club in Michigan
during her time there as a head coach for two years. Maria would coach
for a total of 15 years before she turned to personal fitness training
and developed her own business.
Maria dabbled with the weights after her knee injury and
would also stay fit and athletic through windsurfing. She was then introduced
to a gym by a friend and because of her background in sports, Maria
was naturally strong in the lifts. People took notice of Maria's build
which was as lean as a fitness competitor and sported a six pack. Maria
quickly learned the strict form while training in the powerlifting style.
After moving to Michigan,
another gym owner convinced her to compete in a bodybuilding show he
promoted. At this point, Maria never saw a bodybuilding show and didn't
know what to expect at a show. The experience in doing the show would
not be a pleasurable one as it brought on mounds of frustration. During
her contest preparation, she cheated on her diet in the last week and
it didn't help that her posing routine was not together and her posing
suit did not arrive
until the week of the competition only to find out that it was not the
size that fits her physique.
Once on stage weighing in at 127 pounds, Maria's frustrations
seem to evaporate as her competitiveness and muscles erupted as she
flexed her physique. It fulfilled what was missing in her athletic career
because she missed that last year competing in gymnastics. Maria placed
third in her first contest. It was the satrt of something good. From
that point Maria, entered in numerous competitions in the United States
taking top spots and
winning many best poser awards, most muscular and most symmetrical awards
along the way before moving back home.
Once at home Maria took a year off from competition to
get familair with the Canadian system. When Maria stepped back up on
stage, she continued where she left off with placing top honours in
many of her competitions. She strives to be the best she can be while
maintaining a natural physique.
Maria's career highlight was making the Canadian Team to
represent Canada at the IFBB Women's World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships.
Even after food poisoning the day before, Maria was able to take to
the stage and was the top placing North American in 2003.
